A Successful Conference Presentation

I’ve just returned home from attending the North Central Regional Conference of the Society for College and University Planning. While there I had the privilege of presenting a workshop about the sources of evidence that my colleagues and I have considered over the last few years of planning, designing, and constructing the Jerry Falwell Library.

The session was entitled “Planning a New Library Building: The Critical Role of Data.” The core message of the presentation was that planning for a new academic library building should be based on a wide variety of data. The graphic below shows that Liberty University’s planning process included consideration of both quantitative and qualitative data, elicited through both communication and observation.

Attendees included architects, institutional administrators, and other people with an interest in higher education planning. I was pleased to receive enthusiastic responses from several of those who chose to attend.
