Virtually everything that I've accomplished in my professional life has been grounded, directly or indirectly, in reading. Good ideas are much more likely to come to mind when I've nourished my reflective capacities with theories, research findings, and experiential narratives that others have documented in written form.
Writing and speaking to professional audiences requires me to cite my sources. Whenever I read something and think I might want to refer back to it, I enter it into a web-based bibliography that I call SmithFile. Its contents represent some of the best of what I've read from 2009 to the present. Since 2016, the bibliography has been on the Zotero platform.
The accompanying image visualizes the diverse range of topics represented in what I read and logged between January 2017 and February 2019.
