Professional Development & Evaluation of librarians Survey

A colleague and I developed this instrument in 2010 in anticipation of enacting changes concerning the professional development and evaluation of librarians in our library. As presented here, the survey form has been edited slightly to eliminate institution-specific language. Survey items address a variety of issues, including the following:

• evaluation of performance in diverse roles

• supervisory evaluation

• self-evaluation

• peer evaluation

• subordinate evaluation

• supervision of professional development

• implications of faculty status for librarian evaluation

• service and professional activity as evaluation criteria

• barriers to professional engagement
